About Us

Meet David and Heather Mitchell, owners of Rocky Patch Pottery!

They've been married for over 20 years and have four children. The family moved to their farm in southern Missouri in 2015. David served in the United States Marine Corps before becoming an Art teacher. He has been teaching Art for over ten years, earning his Master's and Specialist degrees along the way. Heather manages the gardens and animals on the farm, along with studying as a potter's apprentice. She has recently discovered a love of painting as well.

This was their first pottery studio location, originally built in 1889. The children aptly named the area "the rocky patch", which was adopted as the name of their studio: Rocky Patch Pottery.

After a couple of years, they soon realized the pottery production had outgrown the small building. Fortunately, also located on the farm is a large pole barn, originally built in 1936, which was being used for storing...everything farm related.

So, the Mitchell Family began an epic quest to renovate this building into something much more functional and definitely more beautiful. After 18 months of hard work locating and repurposing materials, the new Rocky Patch Pottery building was completed.

Now the family enjoys spending time together in the cozy building, painting, drawing, reading, and of course, making awesome pottery!
